This TTO (Bilingual Education) social studies method has been specially designed by experienced TTO teachers. It incorporates Content Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), which means that students not only gain insights into Dutch society but also enhance their English language proficiency. Going beyond the standard curriculum, we offer additional challenges by integrating philosophical elements. Students explore the questions posed by philosophers and connect them to the information in each chapter. Furthermore, the curriculum, designed with the TTO program in mind, places a strong emphasis on international aspects

The exercises in the textbook offer a diverse range of activities, including text explorations and assignments with sources for analyzing societal matters. These activities help students build a solid understanding of Dutch society while promoting active and creative thinking. Additionally, there are CLIL-specific assignments to enhance students' English language skills.

The curriculum comprises four chapters, each designed to offer students a thorough exploration of the fundamentals of Dutch society.

Chapter 1: Social Challenges and Fundamental Concepts. In this chapter, students develop a profound comprehension of societal challenges and conflicts, all while immersing themselves in key concepts that serve as the cornerstone for comprehending these issues. The primary goals of this chapter are to acquaint students with a range of fundamental terms and concepts, equipping them with the tools to analyze and comprehend social issues more effectively.

Chapter 2: The Concept of Rule of Law. This chapter places an emphasis on comprehending the fundamental principles of a constitutional state and their application within the Dutch context. Students will not only grasp the essence of a constitutional state but also acquire insight into the functioning of the legal system and its role in upholding justice and order. They will explore the potential and limitations of this system and delve into complex topics, such as the interplay between civil liberties and the rule of law. Furthermore, they will gain an understanding of how international influences and treaties impact the Dutch legal framework and how it aligns with legal systems in other nations.

Chapter 3: Parliamentary Democracy and International Politics. This chapter covers the core of parliamentary democracy and the dynamics of international politics. Students gain insight into the functioning of the Dutch government, interactions between political actors, and the role of citizens in a democratic system. By exploring perspectives on the social contract, collective action, and government intervention, they understand democratic legitimacy. Additionally, students explore the world of international politics with a focus on nations and international organizations. They learn about the unique features and limitations of the European Union, NATO, and the United Nations, analyzing their impact.

Chapter 4: Welfare State and Pluralistic Society. This chapter investigates the foundations of the welfare state and the complexity of cultural diversity. Students understand why welfare states emerge and how social divides play a role in this process. They analyze cultural diversity and social inequality in the Netherlands while examining the activities and justification of the welfare state.
